The Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City, has gained full accreditation to run Nursing Science and Physiotherapy programmes.

UNIMED accreditation: With the mandate for National Universities Commission (NUC), to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian Universities, NUC has visited UNIMED in the last quarter of 2019 as the University had run the programmes for two academic sessions following the initial approval by the Commission.

The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, mni, MFR, in a letter addressed to the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University revealed that Nursing Science scored 80.5 percent while Physiotherapy got 81.9 percent during the accreditation exercise.

The University Vice-Chancellor of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi described the accreditation as another laudable(admirable) milestone in the history of UNIMED, the first medical University in Nigeria.

Prof. Fatusi however noted that the University is not simply interested in obtaining accreditation of programmes but focused on provision of excellent medical education that can be rated among the best in the world.

He thanked members of staff in the accredited departments and the whole University community for imbibing the culture of teamwork as well as dedication to duty.

He(Vice-Chancellor) also appreciate all the Visitors to the University and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN for his commitment and unflinching support(fearless and steadfast ) to the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.

Prof. Fatusi also said new medical courses will be introduced as soon as possible because the University has plans for making available education and training in all health-related services.

The institution has 13 out 14 programs offered by the University that have gained the accreditation of the National Universities Commission.

The Medical Laboratory Science will be due for accreditation after two academic sessions by November 2020, a requirement by the Commission.
